Medical Chaperone
Beginning on July 1, 2023, all Oregonians will be entitled to have a medical chaperone present for intimate physical exams, including breast, genital, and rectal exams for patients of any age.
Medical chaperones serve as a witness to the events taking place. The presence of a trained chaperone can provide reassurance about the professional context and content of the exam.

Mask Policy Update
In accordance with OHA and OSHA, masks are now voluntary in medical facilities unless required under specific isolation policies or at a patient’s or caregiver’s request. Staff may still choose to wear masks. At SPC, we recommend any person feeling ill wear a mask to protect other patients and staff. If you would like our staff to wear a mask for your visit, please let our front desk and medical assistant staff know and we will be happy to accommodate your request.
Winter 2022-2023 Update Regarding Wait Times and Sick Visits
The community spread of a number of pediatric respiratory illnesses this winter is high and you may have noticed that wait times for calls back or appointments may be longer than anticipated. Many of us who have been doing this job for decades are experiencing the highest phone call and illness volume of our careers.
We are working to increase staffing and access to the best of our ability and appreciate your patience as we work to take care of our community.
When you are expecting a call back please remain available by phone. If you miss the call it may significantly extend your wait time. Please set up your voicemail and ensure it has space for messages.
We understand you are thinking about the health of your family, and many of you are wanting to make sure we have the capacity for sick visits that may be needed. If you are not planning to attend a visit PLEASE call and let us know so that we can use that time to help other families.
We have also been asked if we recommend postponing routine checkups and other non-urgent visits. At this time we continue to recommend that all patients have scheduled preventative care on time.
We continue to utilize separate physical spaces in our building for sick and well visits and take extra precautions to minimize the chance of exposures.
We at Salem Pediatric Clinic so appreciate everyone asking about how they can do their part during the current COVID-19 situation.
We understand you are thinking about the health of your family, and many of you are wanting to make sure we have the capacity for sick visits that may be needed. We have also been asked if we recommend postponing routine checkups and other non-urgent visits.
At this time, we still recommend coming in for routine care for children 2 and younger. Staying up to date with a schedule of preventative care, including vaccinations, can be protective to your children from vaccine-preventable complications.
For children over 2, we remain available for well care and would leave that up to your discretion.
We have divided our daily schedule in order to separate well check hours in the morning from sick visits in the later afternoon hours. We are also taking extra precautions to minimize the chance of exposures.
